Q: Is there internet access? A: Smart phones with 3G coverage work great at the cottage. There is not WIFI in the house but it is available at the beautiful new public library just 3 blocks away. The library has quiet places to work and even a gas fireplace to sit by in the colder months. There are also multiple coffee shops in town with WIFI.
Q: What's included in the kitchen? A: We have a full supply of plates, bowls, silverware, glasses, mugs, serving pieces, can & wine bottle openers, cooking and bake wear, dish towels and wash cloths. There is a microwave, toaster, coffee pot, electric griddle, hand mixer and tea kettle on site as well. Pan spray, sugar/sweetener, non-dairy creamer and a few condiments are typically there too. A BBQ is available for your use (bring a few charcoal briquettes).
Q: Is there really no TV reception? A: We made the decision to go 'TV free' at the cottage so you will not find any television reception. There is a TV and DVD player in the living room and a selection of movies to watch. You are welcome to bring your own movies or enjoy board games and books on-site. There is a $1 DVD rental kiosk at the Red Apple Market just 1/2 mile away.
Q: Do we need to bring sheets and towels? A: No, all linen items you'll need are supplied however, if you wish to take towels outside (to the beach) you should bring your own beach towels. There is a picnic blanket here for your use and lots of beach toys are located in the storage shed. NOTE: To our guest who use acne treatment lotions/creams...those medications cause permanent damage to linens. We would greatly appreciate you bringing your own pillow case and towels if you use these products. Thank you so much.
Q: Can we bring our dog, he's well behaved and small? A: Sorry, no pets of any kind. We work hard to keep our cottage smoke-free and pet-free for guests who may have allergies.
Q: Can we bring our boat? A: Penn Cove is great for boats of all size...from kayaks to trailered vessels. Covered storage is available onsite for kayaks and there is ample off-street parking for a boat/trailer. A public boat launch is located just 3 blocks away. Want to bring a larger boat? Overnight mooring is available through the Port of Coupeville.
Q: Can you recommend restaurants to eat at? A: For a nice meal out, featuring fresh northwest selections including seafood we like Christopher's. Link. There is also a good Thai restaurant. Link Kids like the pizza at Pizza Factory...they deliver! Link Adults like the pizza at Ciao (2 blocks from the cottage). Link. Locals love Toby's Tavern...its usually hopping on the weekends. Link One other place that is a 'must go' is Kapaws Ice Cream. Link
Q: Do whales come into Penn Cove?
A: It is not too common but occasionally does happen! You'll be more likely to see harbor seals, lots of shellfish on the beach, starfish under the pier, sand dollars, eagles, deer and heron. Here, however is a link to Orca whale photos taken April 2010 - Whales in Penn Cove. Folks did see grey wales foraging in Penn Cove in March 2013.
